hannu ikola is a finnish artist and owner of the etherwerks label, releasing his third record on the imprint. *chrysalis* is a four track opus of raw and swarthy techno. in the tracks ikolas musical inspiration from experimental and ambient music can be heard.

in 1996 paul birken released the classic and now rare as hens teeth surfin superior double 12inch on woody mcbrides communique label. this was to be a revered and respected record that influenced many and is still talked about and played today. now, some 19 years later he follows it up with part 2. nobody works as hard at getting human sounding chattering from their machines as birken and here he treats us to 8 massive cuts of grinding techno that are as humorous as they are danceable.

boola is no stranger at all to the vinyl club team. he was amongst the very first customers of the former ibiza record shop that gave birth to vinyl club, and even if this is his first release on the imprint he contributed from the beginning to inspire the crew with his early productions that enlightened the golden days of dc10, some of them being released on the then new born arpiar label a bit less than a decade ago. joining the vinyl club agency in 2013, he is since then sharing the dj booth too with the team for endless sessions at cdv / berlin.

since the last record, the band have embraced creative opportunities, dave (drummer and producer) travelled to mali with damon albarns africa express, and dave and tommy (synthesizer operator) worked on the score for the royal shakespeare companys production of john websters bloodthirsty jacobean tragedy the white devil. dave established his own label, kick and clap, named after the club night he launched when he first moved to dalston and vinnie (singer and guitarist) and jim (bassist) collaborated with award-winning artist haroon mirza at stromboli arts festival last summer, at the foot of the islands volcano.

another recent masterpiece from the rising barcelona label “modern obscure music”. this time the label is introducing a 12’’ with two long lasting analogue jams made from synthesizers like moog voyager and the mythical juno 80 on abstract rhythms created with a powerful roland 909. this is an essential record for collectors of relics focused on the club. to the mysterious, exotic and even tribal vibe, the record label adds a remix by daniel martin-mccormick, best known as ital, who has recently published his 3rd album with mike paradinas (planet mu) apart from also presenting some pieces from his own record company lover’s rock or in the prestigious workshop house. remixes by jmii and pettre, aster’s ex-band components, are also added in the digital version of it.

after three years, ascion and d.carbone return with *substructures*, their most experimental release to date on their label 3th. the a-side of this record holds two droney offbeat tracks, *ram expedients* and *lo-fi fields*, combining a rare/abstract and genuine mix of middle-eastern electronics, cyberpunk and uk warehouse techno. the b-side contains the tracks that are responsible for the nomenclature of this release: *substructures one/two*. being more oriented to genres such as idm and rave techno, they are characterized by powerful beats and cutting edge ambients and vocals. both tracks have been recorded during one of their live performances in london 2013.

midgar is proud to introduce a newcomer for the third release. a great debut for the maltese cloned, delivering not less than 4 cuts with sapphire 1990 e.p. the record, way more straightforward and groove centered than the previous midgar outputs, opens with sapphire 1990, track that sounds like very nostalgic memories from a timeless rave. thanks to a genuine simplicity and the great arrangement of its elements, this first cut has the perfect characteristics to become a dancefloor anthem. on the same side, a live out-take from cloned’s repertory, the pendulum swinging synth-lines which dominate pretty direct rhythmics filled with hi-hats and claps over a costant background noise. belgassem as the first cut on the b side, is an absolutely heavy one for the label’s standards, made of deep kickin’ drums and haunting voices empowered by a really strong and obsessive acid-line. closing the vinyl, the slow (and again really acidic) submerging is like a lysergic vessel headed to more comfortable dimensions, where groovy drums are embraced by very bright heavenly pads. sudden death is instead a chilled-out broken beat interrupted by confused speeches and detroitish pads, resulting as a modern ritual of ascension towards higher spheres. corel drives the release to the end, recalling most of its main features: a restless run through misty soundscapes along a path studded of bells and overwhelming, sharp hi-hats.

limited nice price blow out ... disconet was created as subscription program service, which professionally selected and mixed disco music for discotheque djs, mobile discos and radio stations. disconet is called as the granddaddy of all remix services and provided mixed/segued dj dance sets, not only to make the djs job a little bit easier, but to expose club goers to new music. the djs spinning at the height of the disco era were given access to a new creative tool - a different interpretation of current dance tunes to wow club goers. originally, the disconet records were to be issued on a monthly basis which were limited to 1000 - 1500 copies of each volume. the first disconet record was released in october 1977. disconet team at that time was: tom savarese, bobby dj guttadaro and kevin guilmet as well as mike wilkinson. tom, bobby and kevin were dj legends, who had already been awarded with the dj of the year title by billboard. these greatest hits volumes contain their finest work, the original licensed disco edits of all the floor fillers of the time that have been re issued for your listening pleasure. expect many more volumes in the near future.

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.
